July 14th, 1999

Well  lot has happened since July 7th.  First of all, we found out that what we thought was a water well turned out to an old septic well (it's not a tank - the house was built back in 1937).  If this wasn't enough, we found out later that this is an active septic system that's used by the cottage (we rent it out).

Cha ching - more money down the old pit.  So, here comes the plumbers to dig a trench and tie the cottage system into the sewer line.  So, we're already, only two weeks into the project and we're already digging deep into the provisional monies....  Let's hope this is it for the spend-it-on-no-fun-stuff spree.

In the process of filling in the "money pit" - Actually looked pretty easy.  They just  put a bunch of road gravel and mixed with concrete hardeners and such, add water, compaction and wads of hundreds... and viola!  No more pit.
The forms are coming along - this is along the back left side which gets expanded a little bit out so the 3rd bedroom is still reasonably small...

We're trying to keep the tree there on the left - you'll notice how close it is to the house, so it may be another casualty (we already had to remove the Tree of a Thousand Lemons - Marli's favorite!).

Ok, I'm getting tired of talking to our contractor :-).  Not that he's a bad guy or anything, he's just always got something like the following to say - "Do you want the good news or the bad news first".  Just the good news, thanks.

The good news

The inspector came out and passed the forms and steel work so we can pour the foundation tomorrow.

 The bad news

The inspector would not pass the work on connecting the cottage to the sewer system until we prove that the cottage has the proper permits.  Ouch!  I can see big headaches ahead (and hopefully they don't kick out our tenant!).

Ok, here we are ready to pour the concrete
for the footings - that'll happen tomorrow
morning.  Then, we can actually start
going UP and that's where the real
fun begins...
