THE DETAILS

Thank you for visiting Tori's new page! She's such a doll!

Marli and I went to the hospital at around 2pm, Sat Dec 1st- no rush really. I was playing basketball before that, when she called to tell me perhaps I should come home. We made lunch, packed up the car and took a leisurely drive to the hospital. At the time, I thought we were going too early - Marli wasn't in a "serious mood", as one of the pregnancy books determined that a mother should be before departing for the hospital. But, since the contractions were timed approximately 5 minutes apart and regular, she decided that that was a better indication that a nebulous mood (of course, I agreed). Marli was all smiles as we left (the big day was finally upon us), only interrupted briefly here and there by a hard contraction among the easy ones.

So we arrived at the hospital (I'm still thinking we're too early) and after asking a bunch of questions about the contractions, the nurse gave Marli an exam. Much to our surprise (and I think the nurse's too), Marli was already dilated to 7 cm! We immediately called Margery (Marli's sister) to tell her it's time and to make her way to the hospital ASAP (much to her son's chagrin - they were at the theater watching Harry Potter).

The exam was at around 2:30 pm - and about 4 hours later, Marli had a new baby in her arms. What a great labor - she did a completely natural childbirth (no drugs at all) and combined with her prenatal Yoga classes, I think it really made a difference. During the four hours of labor at the hospital, she may have had 1 hour of really hard labor. And when instructed to push by the doctor, she did great! We were blessed with a beautiful baby girl named Tori. Not Victoria - just Tori. No real meaning to the name, other than we both really liked that name.

We're home now, enjoying our new life as a family and getting to know each other. Better go though - Tori's sleeping now and I've got to take this opportunity to do the same...
